A server on TikTok recently went viral after sharing what led him to quit and walk out the same day.
“So, I’m pissed. I just left my service job,” user @yezusyikes said in the video as he walked down the street.
The creator said that when a table offered him cash, he didn’t think they wanted change, though he admitted his mistake.
“I thought they didn’t want to change,” he said. “I know I shouldn’t assume. I should ask.”
At the time, the waiter said he was helping five tables when the male customer stopped him saying he had no change. @yezusyikes said he then ran around the restaurant looking for change for customers who didn’t have it on hand.
“I went to bars, front halls and offices to see if anyone had change and no one had change,” he explained.
After looking for change, he said the woman at the table angrily complained to the manager that she had not received her change. When the TikToker was finally ready to give customers change, he claimed he witnessed managers paying customers back the change in the form of gift cards.
However, the manager explained that he took money from the cashier to the customer, @yezusyikes said, claiming that the server now owes the restaurant the change in his own wallet.
“Bro, I just saw you give them a gift card,” the TikToker explains in the clip.
The waiter then noticed that the manager claimed to have gotten change from the cash register, although @yezusyikes recalled that when the waiter initially looked for the customer’s change, the manager told them there was no cash in the drawer.
He added he wasn’t sure why the manager lied or if he was just trying to pocket the money, but either way he quit his job immediately.
@yezusyikes’ experience mimics many in the service industry, which has seen a massive exodus of workers in recent years. From 2021 to early 2022, the number of servers leaving jobs jumped from 4.8% to nearly 7%, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As of Sunday, the video had been viewed more than 62,000 times. @yezusyikes does not mention his former employer in the clip. While previous videos indicated that he had worked at Buffalo Wild Wings, the TikToker noted that he had a number of jobs.
The comments section is full of love and support for @yezusyikes.
“Stand up for yourself. You’ll find another baby that’s okay,” one user wrote.
“When Naruto is a blockbuster. You’ll get a better job! Look up,” the second said.
“Oh man, bad luck. I’ll be fine. The servers don’t earn what they deserve. You’ll find something. Don’t be nervous,” a third agreed.
Others don’t understand why @yezusyikes made this assumption in the first place.
“We should always give change unless told not to, but people also need to be aware of how difficult it can actually be to ask for 30 cents back sometimes,” shared one person.
“If they give you money, what’s the problem with returning all the money to your manager? Gift card or not, the money won’t give you,” the second agreed.
