Minor stops work at Dunkin’ Donuts subsequent to remaining alone coming up

A 17-year-old former Dunkin’ Donuts employee said she quit after being left alone at the store no closer, detailing what she called a “labor law violation” she experienced while working there as a minor for two years. “.

In a September 3 video posted by TikToker Kelly (@kellymariamm), she shows a clip of her crying in Dunkin’ Donuts and says she “just quit.” The text overlay reads, “Duncan, treat your employees better.”

I’m literally 17 and I’m just stuck in Dunkin all by myself,” she says in the clip. “This is just the beginning of the nonsense that’s going on at this store.”

In the caption, Kelly detailed that she was alone because “the owners didn’t set the schedule properly and the door closers didn’t show up.”

“The girl who was working before had worked 10 hours straight without a break and had to leave at 5:30 when she was supposed to be off at 4,” the caption continued. “We kept letting the owner and manager know, but nothing was done, so I locked myself in the store and told them it was my last day and when the owner finally showed up, all she cared about was me opening the door.”

@kellymariamm @kellymariamm more background info.. I was totally alone at Dunkin NEAR A HIGHWAY because the owner didn’t schedule the schedule correctly, no door closers came, the girl who was working before had been working 10 hours straight without a break and had to work at 5 :30 left, she was supposed to get off at 4, we kept letting the owner and manager know, but nothing was done, so I locked myself in the store, told them it was my last day, and when the owner finally showed up, All she cared about was me opening the door. #boycottdunkin #treatyouremployeesbetter #enoughisenough #thegreatresignation ♬ original sound – kelly 💅🏾

The video has more than 958,000 views as of Monday, with commenters sharing their own experiences with Dunkin’ Donuts’ treatment of underage employees.

Our local Dunkin made my 16 year old work 6 hours with another 16 year old girl! I only found out when she got home. No! The owner stole the tip,” wrote one commenter.

“I remember working at Dunkin and it happened every time the shift started! I would be terrified of myself coming in at 5am and opening the door,” said another.

“My son worked at Dunking when he was 16. They made him 10-4 and no one showed up. I picked him up at 4 and left the store unlocked and open,” added a third.

In a follow-up video posted on Sept. 4, Kelly explained that “an hour later” her original video was filmed, and “the owner showed up with another Dunkin’ girl.”

“She asked me to open the door, and she kept saying, ‘You’re just joking in the group chat, right?’ Because I said ‘Blank’s gone, I’m going to lock the door, it’s going to be my last day,'” Kelly said.

She went on to say that the manager told her to “take a break” and she was just “angry” trying to convince Kelly not to quit.

“At the end of the shift, I handed in the keys and that’s it,” Kelly said.

She noted that she started working at Dunkin’ Donuts “during the pandemic” when she was “15”, averaging 35 to 40 hours a week. Under federal child labor laws, 14- to 15-year-olds may not work more than 18 hours a week during the school year, and may not work outside of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Kelly went on to explain another situation when her manager “went to Miami for four days” and the register was in her name because she was the monitor.

“My manager came back from Miami and she said ‘Oh, $3,200 less.’ I said, ‘But when I counted them, all the registers were fine,'” Kelly said in the clip. “She started manipulating me, telling me ‘all the registers are in your name. It’s probably worse for you than it is for me. She started asking everyone in the store $200.'”

She said she later found out that the manager “counted the money wrong” but the boss “refused to refund” the money paid by the employee.

“So to this day I’ve never seen that $200,” she said.

At the end of the clip, Kelly said Dunkin’ Donuts would “often” screw up her paycheck and delay due to changes in school availability.

“Duncan is just a terrible place to work,” she concluded.

@kellymariamm Reply to @kellymariamm @dunkin and treat your employees better. My manager did this only because our boss threatened her job as a single mother. They also took my friend’s entire salary. They exploit minors because they think we won’t speak up…we are #laborlaws #boycottdunkin #thegreatresignation #minorsafety ♬ original sound – kelly 💅🏾
