Elected officials on leaked sworn list

The names of a number of elected officials were found on the membership list of the far-right Oathkeeper militia, which was leaked by hackers last year, according to a report by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Center for Extremism.

As The STYO first reported last September, hackers provided journalists and the Transparency Collective Distributed Denial of Secrets (DDoSecrets) with approximately 5GB of data containing details about the group’s members and donors, as well as emails and internal chats.

The list even exposed government and military email addresses, as The STYO exclusively reported that same month. In total, the email addresses of more than 38,000 individuals were leaked. However, the membership list did not detail whether the individual was active in the militia.

Earlier that year, the Oath Keepers came into the national spotlight after their members were found involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in Washington, D.C.

Now, the ADL reports that elected officials are also listed as among those who have shown interest in the caliphate. An inspection found that as of early last month, 81 leakers were running for or had held public office.

These individuals range from local offices — mayors, town council members, school board members — to state representatives and senators,” the report said.

One of the elected officials on the list is South Dakota Rep. Phil Jensen (right). Jensen told The Associated Press that he paid a one-year membership fee in 2014 but never received any documentation from the group. Jensen also said he never attended any conferences and never renewed his membership.

Other names on the list include Arizona Sen. Wendy Rogers (right), New Hampshire Sen. Bob Juda (right) and Alaska Rep. David Eastman (right).

ADL’s analysis also targeted members belonging to law enforcement agencies and the armed forces. First responders such as firefighters, fire marshals, paramedics and EMTs are also on the list.
