The beloved Target store is becoming an unpopular option, according to influencers on TikTok.
In a viral video with more than 2.9 million views, TikToker Gwyn Atlas-Kosman (@gulliblebarrel) complained about the recent decline in the company’s products and store layout through a mosaic video.
“I’m glad to hear other people talk about this,” he said in the clip. “Target used to be my fucking safe space.”
“I really want to cross the road and show you. They’re doing these ridiculous makeovers that make me feel like Dillard’s or JCPenney,” he continued.
Aside from the stores being “completely disorganized” and no longer selling DVDs, Atlas-Cosman said, “they’re turning it into a department store.”
“It’s no longer a random shopping experience where you can walk down each aisle and see what they have,” he said. “Everything now becomes like their own specific lighting bracket.”
In the comments section, users shared similar views.
“Target made me a Walmart shopper. Better quality, better selection, lower prices, better staff. Not an endless maze of end caps,” commented one user.
“It started with prairie women’s clothing,” said another.
“I miss when Target smelled like popcorn,” commented a third user.

“Is it just me or Target is done?” he asks in the clip. “Target used to have a hold on home decor and good design, like affordable prices, and now it’s the same shit.”
Filipski explained that their inventory is getting stale, and it’s almost like Target is cheating customers with pricing.
“I always go there expecting them to finally put their shit together, but they never do,” he said.
In the comments section, users agree with Filipski’s top views.
“They haven’t received the memo that the farmhouse is no longer like this,” said one user.
“They stopped working with trend forecasters a few years ago. True story. They work with Magnolia and Studio Magee, they have a very niche style,” commented another user.
“It’s so expensive for no reason,” said a third user.
According to Target’s website, they have indeed been remodeling their stores, with a June 28, 2022 press release stating that the large chain has completed its 1,000th store remodel.
“In fact, this year’s renovation plan will be our most ambitiouswith nearly 200 store-wide renovations planned by 2022,” the article reads.
The Daily Dot reached out to Filipski via an Instagram message, Target via email, and Atlas-Kosman via a Twitter message.
